Johanna Koukkunen - vocals, 10-string kantele
A founding member of Burlakat, Johanna studied folk singing at the Central Karelian College of Music. Her family comes from eastern Karelia and she has been singing Karelian songs since childhood, when she used to perform with her parents, so it is not surprising that songs in the original Karelian language are part of Burlakat's repertoire. She has sung with the folk group, Koijarit, and she performs Karelian songs with her accordionist husband in the duo, Kurniekku. She also sings Greek music in the folk group, Fegari, who released an EP in 2002. Johanna earns her living as a primary school teacher.

Jukka Kyllönen - percussion, guitars
Jukka studies music pedagogy at the North Karelia Polytechnic, specialising in percussion instruments. He first performed with Burlakat in the summer of 2000 as a stand-in percussionist and then he became regular member of the band, initially as a guitarist. He also plays in Sari Kaasinen's ensemble, Otawa (The Big Dipper).

Pauliina Lerche (Luukkanen) - violin, vocals
Singer, violinist and accordionist, Pauliina studied folk music at the Sibelius Academy, graduating in 2002. Her own band, Mimmit, was founded in 1993 and the following year she joined Burlakat. Today Pauliina plays in various bands and performs around the world as a soloist. She plays for several folk dance groups, including Pitko and Potpuri, for whom she also composes music. Touring with mainstream bands provides a pleasant change from folk music. Recently, her solo career took off and 2002 saw the release of her first album, Katrilli (Quadrille), (www.pauliinalerche.com).

Vesa-Pekka Pisto - bass
Vesa-Pekka lives in Jyväskylä, where he plays in the Air Force Band. Vesku drifted into folk music when he was studying in Rääkkylä in 1996-97. He was quickly adopted by the bands Burlakat and Pocadan, who were playing there at the time. Since then ethno has been Vesku's life, although his studies have also drawn him to classical music and jazz. He plays in other bands, including his own group, Ettone (http://webusers.siba.fi/~ovaris/). In 2002 Vesku graduated from North Karelia Polytechnic as a music teacher.

Lasse Eronen- accordeon
Lasse studied accordion more than 15 years in the music school of Joensuu. In 1993 he decided to be a math teacher instead of music career. Nowadays Lasse plays ethno as a serious hobby in Burlakat and is finnishing PhD-studies in the university of Joensuu.
